AmeriWell uses the Mark VI Focused Shockwave Therapy System, an electromagnetic focused shockwave device designed to deliver energy to a specific treatment area.

The system can focus treatment at depths of up to 65 mm and has a maximum penetration depth of up to 120 mm, allowing providers to target structures deeper beneath the surface than conventional radial shockwave technology.

This makes focused shockwave therapy particularly valuable when treatment needs to reach deeper tendons, joints, connective tissue, or other musculoskeletal structures.

How Does Shockwave Therapy Work?

When acoustic energy is delivered to the targeted area, it creates a controlled biological stimulus within the tissue.

This stimulation is intended to activate processes associated with the body’s natural healing response. Depending on the condition and treatment plan, shockwave therapy may help support tissue remodeling, circulation, and recovery while reducing persistent pain and improving function.

What Should I Expect?

Your provider will first evaluate the painful or injured area and determine the appropriate treatment location and intensity.

A conductive gel is applied to the skin, and the shockwave applicator is positioned over the treatment area. Controlled energy pulses are then delivered directly to the targeted tissue.

Some patients may experience mild discomfort during treatment or temporary soreness afterward, similar to the feeling following an intense workout.
