Firefighter Injured In DUI Crash On I-495 In Montgomery County

(SILVER SPRING, MD) – A firefighter was injured early Friday morning in a suspected DUI crash on the Inner Loop of Interstate 495 in Montgomery County, according to Maryland State Police. DUI crashes often lead to serious neck, back, and pain injuries for victims. If you have been hurt in a car crash, you may find relief from a Rockville, MD, chiropractor as part of your holistic medical are plan.

The initial incident occurred around 2:40 a.m. when troopers from the Rockville Barrack responded to a crash involving a Lexus sedan and a tractor-trailer near University Boulevard. While authorities investigated, several lanes were closed using traffic cones, flares, and two marked patrol vehicles with emergency lights activated.

At approximately 3 a.m., a BMW sedan drove through the lane closure, striking the two unoccupied police vehicles and firefighter Michael Doyle, 54, of Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service. Doyle was transported to MedStar Washington Hospital for treatment of his injuries.

The BMW driver, identified as 45-year-old Alberto Zurita, was arrested for suspected driving under the influence and taken to the Rockville Barrack for processing. No additional injuries were reported.

The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration assisted with road closures, while the Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service provided on-site support.

Maryland State Police are continuing their investigation to determine the circumstances leading to the crash. Further details about Doyle’s condition or additional charges against Zurita were not immediately available.

How Does Chiropractor Care Complement Physical Therapy?

Chiropractic care and physical therapy (PT) are distinct but complementary practices that work together to enhance recovery, improve mobility, and alleviate pain. While both aim to restore function, their approaches and focuses differ, making them effective partners in comprehensive care.

Focus Areas

Chiropractic care primarily addresses the spine, joints, and nervous system. Chiropractors perform manual adjustments to correct misalignments (subluxations), improve joint mobility, and reduce nerve interference. This approach can relieve pain and enhance the body’s ability to heal itself.

Physical therapy focuses on strengthening muscles, improving flexibility, and retraining movement patterns. Physical therapists often prescribe exercises, stretching routines, and modalities like ultrasound or electrical stimulation to rehabilitate injuries and prevent recurrence.

Synergy In Treatment

When combined, chiropractic care and physical therapy create a well-rounded treatment plan. Chiropractic adjustments can restore proper joint alignment, which may improve the effectiveness of physical therapy exercises by reducing pain and enhancing range of motion. Similarly, physical therapy can strengthen muscles around aligned joints, promoting stability and reducing the likelihood of further misalignments.

Specific Benefits

For conditions like back pain, sports injuries, or post-surgical recovery, chiropractic care can address structural issues while physical therapy targets functional recovery. For example, after a spinal adjustment, PT exercises can help stabilize the corrected alignment by strengthening core and supporting muscles.

Collaborative Care

These practices often work hand-in-hand in integrated healthcare settings. A chiropractor might address immediate discomfort, while a physical therapist ensures long-term recovery and injury prevention. Together, they provide a comprehensive approach to healing.

Many people experience faster recovery when combining chiropractic care with physical therapy. You may have improved functionality, plus reduce the risk of re-injury, which means a better quality of life.
